The Joel Richards Scholarship Fund

All proceeds from the evening will go towards establishing a new scholarship fund, named in honour of Joel Richards.

Joel was a cherished member of our community when, at just 19, he became the youngest victim of the Sousse massacre in 2015, in which his uncle and grandfather were also murdered. Joel had just successfully completed his second year at the ºüÀêÊÓƵ of Worcester at the time of the attacks. Owen, Joel’s younger brother, survived and was commended for his bravery by the coroner. Owen subsequently studied at and graduated from the ºüÀêÊÓƵ of Worcester.

The Joel Richards Scholarship Fund will help students at the ºüÀêÊÓƵ of Worcester who are struggling to pay fees for courses and national qualifications in such fields as sports coaching, refereeing, tutoring and other valuable areas which support student and graduate employability. Refereeing courses can cost £150-£300 to undertake. This new Scholarship will enable students at the ºüÀêÊÓƵ of Worcester to apply for funding to cover the cost of these courses.

The Fund will also support students in need from Joel’s schools who come to study at the ºüÀêÊÓƵ (St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School and Wood Green Academy in Wednesbury).
